2020 MAD Red Goat Awards

Congratulations to Lynn Woods and Addie Farr, two stellar champions of the arts, for their selection by the MAD Board of Directors as the 2020 MAD Red Goat Award winners!

The dynamic duo will be honored for their outstanding service to the arts in our community at a small outdoor ceremony on Saturday, September 26 at 5 p.m. at the Hudson River Maritime Museum (HRMM) on the Rondout in Kingston.

Woods and Farr join an impressive roster of previous Red Goat Award Winners: Pat Courtney Strong and Radio Kingston (2019); Bryant Drew Andrews and Lara Giordano (2018); Kevin O’Connor and Pauline Oliveros & Ione (2017); and Evry Mann and Nina Dawson (2016).

Named the Red Goat Award in recognition of grassroots art expression in Kingston, Sue Tirrell has handcrafted the beautiful awards each year since their inception.

“Each Red Goat Awardee has exhibited a deep commitment to the value and importance of the arts in Kingston and has contributed countless hours of work to that end in our community,” says Anne Bailey, president of the MAD board of directors.

Lynn Woods is a painter and writer who has written for the Kingston Times, Almanac Weekly, Chronogram, HV1 and other publications for many years. She has featured in her articles many artists, curators, gallerists and other people in the arts from the City of Kingston. Lynn created the film Lost Rondout: A Story of Urban Removal with filmmaker Stephen Blauweiss. Bailey says, “Lynn’s writing and enthusiastic spirit have helped shape the creative community around us. She has been a huge proponent of the arts in our region.”

Adrielle (Addie) Farr is the Arts and Cultural Director for Kingston and, in the past three years, has overseen several art shows and arts events at City Hall; helped shape and direct a cultural master plan for Kingston; and encouraged and supported major art events throughout the city. She is also an animator and digital artist. “Addie is a constant reminder of what is great about our city,” says Bailey. “Her enthusiasm for artists and art programs in Kingston is inspiring. Addie has shown us that our young generation is full of actionable and creative ideas about our future.”

This year’s MAD Red Goat Awards will be given alongside the Todd Samara Art Fund Award, which is administered by the MAD Board of Directors. Each year, a selection committee chooses a recipient and the 2020 Award will be presented to artist and educator Patti Gibbons.
