JLK Mission Statement:
The Junior League of Kingston is part of an international organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.
Who We Are:
The Junior League of Kingston, an all-volunteer, non-profit women’s organization, has been making a difference in our area since 1922. The League through its volunteer efforts and financial support enhances the well-being of families in our community. The League identifies, creates and participates in projects that match our community needs with our members’ skills and interests.
Suggested Artistic Guidelines:
– Inclusive of all races, genders
– Reflects the league’s achievements – past and present
– Reflects community and volunteerism
– Includes reference to 100 Years of Service/Centennial
JLK Projects/Events to inspire, and/or to be represented in mural:
– Forsyth Nature Center (assist in fundraising to supporting center; built greenhouse, a gazebo, a tortoise house, demonstration pens and compost bins)
– Kingston Kinderland (original planning, fundraising & build in 1991, then again in 200?)
– Distribution of books & magazines at hospital
– Super Saturdays (children’s educational programs at the Kingston Library)
– Free Little Library program (small, roadside libraries placed throughout community)
– Cinderella’s closet (prom dress giveaway)
– Holly Berry Trail (holiday home tour)
– YWCA parent room (built and filled room within YWCA for parents to access supplies and information)
– Turkey Trott (thanksgiving day 5K)
