We’ve Moved!
Ever since our founding, MAD has operated without a home to call its own. But all that changed on July 1 when we began moving into our brand-new ground-floor location at 20 Cedar Street—otherwise known as Energy Square!
We could not be more excited!
MAD has approximately 2,000 square feet of office, exhibit, classroom and studio space. We have room to set up an office, hold board meetings and community gatherings, and, best of all, the MAD arts education project, The D.R.A.W., now has a large, multi-use studio space for classes and creative work by students and our teaching artists.
“Working alongside our new neighbors, the Center for Creative Education, we will firmly establish a high-visibility Arts Hub in the heart of Midtown Kingston,” says Anne Bailey, president of the MAD board of directors. “Our new location allows us to safely re-start classes and workshops for the community in these times of social distancing.”
Our safe, arts-friendly location is equipped with plenty of space for people to work at a distance from each other, with easy access to hand washing and sanitizing. We are adhering to the best practices and safety measures set out by WHO, CDC and the Ulster County Health Department so everyone will be able to come together to make art together again, in person.
Under the direction of Lara Giordano and JoAnna Ruisi of The D.R.A.W., plans are well underway for August programs for artists of all ages and abilities. “We are working with the Summer Youth Employment Program, and our Teen P.U.G.G. program,” says Giordano. “We will gradually re-introduce our popular art workshops for people of all ages, too, with the goal of being in full swing by the fall.” Two teaching artists—Tom Sarantino (Color Experience) and Stephen Lewis (Drawing and Painting)—are ready to schedule workshops and others are in the works as well. Please send an email to info@drawkingston.org to let us know if you would like to take, or teach, a workshop.
Once we’re settled into our new space, we’ll send an announcement to let you know all our socially distanced offerings. Until then, please wave hello as you stroll by our windows!
