Calling All Kingston Artists!

Nominations Open Until 12/17 for Distinguished Artist Award

The Kingston Arts Commission has established, with Mayor Steve Noble’s blessing, the City of Kingston Distinguished Artist Award for 2018-2019. This award acknowledges the growing number of extremely gifted and creative people who call Kingston home.

The deadline for nominations is midnight on Sunday, December 17, and the winner will be announced on April 12, 2018, at a Kingston City Hall reception. All nominees must be residents of the City of Kingston for at least two years; self-nominations will be accepted.

The biennial (every two years) award will be given to an artist creating work in any discipline, including music, theater, dance, literary, visual, media or multi-disciplinary arts.

A small stipend will be provided to the awardee, and finalists and recipients will be chosen based on:

  • level of artistry
  • commitment to the art form
  • commitment to the community
  • recognition in the field (locally, nationally or internationally).

The artist chosen for the Distinguished Artist Award must be willing to serve for two years and must agree to perform two public community projects such as a performance, lecture, exhibition, reading, workshop, etc.

An application form and narrative must be submitted to the Kingston Arts Commission at kingstonarts@kingston-ny.gov by midnight on December 17, 2017. Forms are available at https://www.kingston-ny.gov/ArtsCommission and handwritten narratives will not be accepted. Recipients will be selected on the basis of the quality of their work and on their commitment to the community.
