Red Goat 2019 Awardees:
Pat Courtney Strong and Radio Kingston
The annual Red Goat Awards will be presented August 3, 2019, 3:00 P.M. at the Kingston Center for SUNY Ulster, 94 Marys Avenue, Kingston NY. The awards ceremony is one highlight of the 5th Annual MAD Celebration of the Arts Expo event, which will provide free demonstrations and hands-on workshops to all.
The Red Goat Award was originated by MAD to thank and honor people in the community for their outstanding service to the arts in keeping with the MAD mission to use art to revitalize and reinvigorate Midtown Kingston. It was so named because the Red Goat is established as a recognized symbol of grassroots art expression and activism in Kingston.
This year’s awardees will be Pat Courtney Strong and Radio Kingston with a shout out to Kale Kaposhilin. Strong, current VP of Kingston-based marketing communications firm, Courtney Strong Inc., co-founded the Business Alliance of Kingston and is the founder of the annual Made in Kingston Art Expo. The inaugural 2013 event transformed a vacant storefront on Broadway into a showcase for local artisans to sell and promote all things “Made in Kingston.” The showcase has since been held annually in different Kingston venues such as The Metro and Ferrovia Studios.
Radio Kingston, a non-commercial Kingston-based AM/FM radio station, was built around creating community. It broadcasts the weekly O+ Radio Hour, a weekly conversation about art, music, wellness and activism, hosted by the O+ Festival, a Kingston-based non-profit organization that supports the health and wellness of local underinsured artists and musicians. The program focuses on arts initiatives benefiting Midtown Kingston and around town, including the Brassroots Festival, and wellness center Samadhi. Radio Kingston programming celebrates music, conversation, spoken-word performances, educational programming and more, with a focus on diversity and lifting up all voices.
The MAD Board of Directors selected Pat Courtney Strong and Radio Kingston to follow the 2018 Red Goat Awardees, Drew Bryant and Lara Giordano, in earning this honor.
