Ben Wigfall Collection

Black History Month Kingston (BHMK)
Black History Month Kingston (BHMK) continues through the end of this month, and many activities have a focus on the arts—including the extraordinary Ben Wigfall exhibit at the idea garden, sponsored by MAD!

There’s a Valentine’s Day Dance for all ages at Kingston High School and, on Friday night, you can catch The Wiz at UPAC, and then hit “A Celebration of Black Music Dance Party” at Alebritijes Restaurant (the old Skytop). The next morning, there’s more music—featuring the Hudson Valley Youth Jazz Orchestra, co-led by Bob & Dan Shaut—at City Hall and “Percussion from Around the World” at Kingston Library. Storytelling takes center stage on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon in two events highlighting “Black Stories Matter.”

Heading into next week, on Monday night, there’s a Comedy Slam. Wednesday through Friday evenings, you can enjoy a youth Talent Show, Soul Food Gospel Night, and even take in a Carnival with fun and games for the whole family. And, don’t miss the one-man show by LeLand Gantt (Bardavon) and the BHMK Gala on the weekend of February 22-23.

There are more events on the full calendar at www.mykingstonkids.com/bhmk. The Closing Celebration at the UC Restorative Justice Center will feature projects and pictures created throughout the month of activities, along with music, food and fun!
