Art Walk Kingston
Art Walk Kingston is an annual celebration of the arts and the local community. Over the course of two days, visitors and local residents are invited to explore three distinct areas of the City of Kingston and immerse themselves in a range of art and events.
Paintings, photographs, drawings and sculptures are just some of the mediums on display at home studios and galleries across Kingston. Performers are invited to schedule performances to include during the tour. Whether you have a few hours or a full day, Art Walk Kingston offers a broad range of art and activities for everyone.
The September event is held over a weekend from 12 – 5pm each day and features more than 130 artists showing work in nearly 60 private studios and galleries.
KAAM
Kingston Arts and Action Meetups (KAMM) provide all Kingston-based creative folks with an opportunity to meet and learn about arts-related activities, opportunities and possible collaborations from both Arts Mid-Hudson and MKAD. These meetups also give individuals a forum to share ideas and personal initiatives.
KAMM starts with a social period followed by two presentations: The first is by an artist, the second is by an arts-related business, and there’s plenty of time for open input and discussion.
KAMM is held on the first Thursday of each month at The Beverly, 224 Foxhall Avenue, Kingston. These meetups begin at 6:30 p.m. and are a valuable opportunity for anyone involved in arts-related activities in the Kingston area.
1st Saturday
MAD initiated a partnership with Kingston Gallery Business Group (KGBG) to reinvigorate Kingston’s 1st Saturday gallery openings tradition. Through this 1st Saturday partnership, MAD and KGBG are attracting a growing sector of Kingston artists, arts-based businesses and art lovers.
Today, more than two dozen galleries and arts venues regularly open on 1st Saturday – most in Midtown – and Kingston’s historically large 1st Saturday crowds are returning, with artistic vigor.
Kingston Artists Soapbox Derby
For nearly two decades, the Kingston Artist Soapbox Derby has been a parade of non-motorized kinetic sculptures capable of rolling down lower Broadway in Kingston. It brings makers, tinkerers, artists and the creatively inclined together to show off their wild, wacky and original creations. Vendors and live performances add to a day of fun that concludes with an entertaining awards ceremony near the Visitors Center, where participants receive prizes and one-of-kind artist designed trophies. This unique, family-friendly event promotes the arts and draws participants and spectators from far and wide.
Made in Kingston
Made in Kingston was established in 2012 to celebrate and showcase local artists and businesses. This expo of all things made in the City of Kingston is co-sponsored by the Business Alliance of Kingston, MAD and the City of Kingston, and funded by local business donations as well as a grant from Arts Mid-Hudson’s Ulster County Promotional Fund. A $1,000 scholarship was established in 2016 to be given to a graduating senior at Kingston High School: funds are raised through a raffle of vendor items donated by their makers.
In 2017, MAD sponsored the first annual Pop-Up Fine Art Market to encourage fine artists to display and sell their work at this popular holiday event.
Made in Kingston is free and open to the public. It features dozens of items by local artists, businesses and organizations, live musical entertainment, and delicious food and beverages from Kingston eateries.
