D.R.A.W. at MAD Presents 3rd Annual Eco Arts Week Honoring Earth Day
Featuring Keynote Artist Mary Mattingly and Workshops throughout the week, April 19-28, 2024
D.R.A.W. at MAD announces the 3rd Annual Eco Arts Week beginning Friday, April 29th, 2024 and continuing until April 28th, 2024. Eco Arts Week is a free environmental arts festival that provides residents of Kingston and surrounding communities a unique, hands-on opportunity to explore the intersection of arts education and sustainability. This celebration will include a variety of workshops and artist talks to help participants discover more sustainable artistic techniques as well as creative approaches to social and planetary thriving. This year’s theme is “Thinking in Cycles”.
In celebration of Earth Day, Eco Arts Week brings local talent and resources together to welcome the public into our D.R.A.W. Studio and Neighborhood Print Studio at MAD. Whether you are a seasoned artist or looking to try something new, Eco Arts Week has free workshops for everyone in the community.
Eco Arts Week will open with a talk by renowned artist Mary Mattingly, “Art and Ecosystems”, at the Ulster County Restorative Justice Center, 733 Broadway, Kingston NY. An exciting lineup of teaching artists and organizational partners includes Aurora De Armendi Sobrino, Michael Asbill & Emily Puthoff, Erin Dougherty & Rachel Gee, Briana Gary & Emilie Houssart, Lisa Kelley, Karen Jaimes, Maxine Leu, Farmer Nick/PK Organics, Sariah Park, Susanna Taylor, Roberta Trentin and Brigitta Váradi. Events will be held at the D.R.A.W. Studio at MAD, at 24 Iwo Jima Lane, and Neighborhood Print Shop at MAD, at 49 Greenkill Ave, in Midtown Kingston.
Mary Mattingly’s keynote presentation will examine her ecologically-focused artworks that model ecosystems and the power of art to model alternatives. She will speak about her Swale project and her floating food forest and the effects these works had on New York City Parkland.
Join us for a week of creativity, inspiration, and fun! Together, we can positively impact our environment while celebrating the beauty and inspiration of the arts. Take advantage of this exciting opportunity to connect with your community and develop sustainable practices. This year’s Eco Arts Week is made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts. Event Sponsors include TD Bank, Radio Kingston, Bailey Pottery and Ulster County.
